BEST DRIVE - FALL RIVER ROAD AND RETURN BY TRAIL RIDGE ROAD
Whether you only have a short time in the park or all the time in the world, the drive up Fall River Road and back down Trail Ridge Road is not to be missed. Generally open from July through September, the one-way gravel section of Old Fall River Road allows you to see part of the park that a lot of people miss – and to do it at a much more leisurely pace. Then there’s Trail Ridge Road, the crowning glory of Rocky Mountain National Park. The many vista points will take your breath away (in some cases, literally – after all, this is the highest continuous paved road in the U.S.) Switchbacks on Old Fall River Road, photograph by Dixie C.
